Waste Water Treatment

Aeration Systems

Aeration systems are a residential or commercial wastewater treatment unit which remove impurities contained in wastewater so that the treated wastewater can be safely returned to the environment. Please see additional information on the Norweco website at www.norweco.com.
Additional Norweco Singulair Aeration Agreement details are located at the bottom of this page.

Raised Filter Beds (Mound Systems)

Are considered an at grade disposal system, utilizing the top 12” of the soil. A raised sand filter is dosed from a tank following an aeration system, discharging to a sand layer in the top 12” of the field. This is considered a sub-surface system. Contact our office for design specifications.

Drip Irrigation

Kohnen Concrete Products, Inc. is pleased to announce we can now offer GEOFLOW Drip Irrigation Systems. Drip Irrigation is a method of effluent disposal, which utilizes the top 12” of soil, specifically topsoil. This is very important when considering impervious soils at normal lateral depth, limiting layers or seasonal high water table. Drip systems are also useful when off lot discharge is not feasible. This system can be used to collect effluent from multiple lots with a common field area and would be useful in subdivisions. The introduction of effluent in the topsoil is beneficial as the effluent is dissipated in the upper biologically active soil, grass, plantings, and sunlight. All promote absorption for effluent disposal.

The system consists of the following:

  • Dosing Tank-1000 gal minimum size
  • Head works box or distribution valving (automatic or manual)
  • Effluent pump sized to the field and installed in the dosing tank
  • Control panel activates the effluent pump and controls the frequency and duration of pump operation - also has an audio-visual alarm for high water level
  • 1” Sch 40 PVC piping - normally used for distribution from the dosing tank to the drip field
  • Vacuum breakers to allow the field to drain down between dosings
  • Drip tubing, the amount varies per application

It is normally plowed in with a specially designed plow to a depth of 6” to 10”. System design is not difficult. There is a work sheet with all the design parameters and also a computer program with easy to follow instructions for sizing. The system requires clean Class I effluent and must be preceded by an aeration system. If the aeration system doesn’t have tertiary filtration, an effluent filter such as NORWECO BK2000 should follow it. The BK2000 offers tertiary filtration, flow equalization and disinfection for pathogen reduction. The extra protection will enhance system operation and reduce back flushing on the emitters in the drip field. A soil analysis is required to determine soil texture, permeability, hydraulic loading rates, water table and limiting layers. This information is necessary to properly size and locate the proposed irrigation field.

Septic Tanks

Are sized in Illinois by the number of bedrooms or design flow. Consult your local County Health Department for specific requirements.

Laterals

Are sized based on soil evaluations, ie. Loading rate or percolation rate. Contact your local County Health Department for acceptable materials such as the Infiltrator Chambers. View the website via the links page.

Lift Stations

For installation before or after septic systems & aeration systems.
Whenever possible, wastewater systems employ the force of gravity to transport waste from homes and businesses to or from the Aeration or Septic tank. But what happens when gravity decides to work against you? Lift stations or pump stations must be installed to “lift” wastewater to a higher elevation where it can continue to flow by gravity.

Dosing Tanks

The dosing tank is found after the septic or aeration tank and before the lateral, drip, or raised filter bed system for effluent distribution. It discharges effluent into the disposal field at a predetermined volume. This large intermittent dose allows drying of the field between doses. This action is taken to extend the life of the leach field. Generally, when the disposal field (leach lines only) consists of more than 500 lineal feet, a dosing tank should be used.
Dosing tanks are an important part of any pumped septic system. The tank contains one or more effluent sewage pumps. Float control switches inside tank turn the pump on and off. Dosing tanks require a high water alarm to notify the owner in the case of a pump failure or full tank. If there is an on-demand system, the pump is turned on when enough effluent collects in the tank and shut off after the dose is delivered. We sell a large range of pumps and control to complete this system.

Your Norweco Singulair Aeration system requires routine maintenance in order to function properly. This maintenance should be performed on a regular basis. Every six months is normal for a single family dwelling. Commercial or multi-family may require maintenance more often. This agreement is made available to you to assure that proper maintenance is performed. This is a service agreement and is not a warranty for equipment or for extending warranties on equipment. Please call for pricing and prerequisites for the One year Term agreement.
