Installation Technique

World Block walls are designed for repeatable installation with a built-in setback for stability.

  • Prepare a compacted crushed-stone or concrete leveling pad so the first course is level, aligned, and fully supported.
  • Then place the base course on the prepared pad and stack each course with the designed 2-inch setback. World Block units are formed with an offset trough and knobs so this batter is built in.
  • Also use matching corner, half, recess, cap, and step units to keep joints tight and the wall line consistent.
  • And for taller or load-bearing walls, applications may require geogrid reinforcement, specified setbacks, and inspection.

Drainage Systems

Proper drainage is essential to long-term wall performance. Water pressure behind a wall is one of the most common causes of movement and failure.

  • Install clean crushed-stone drainage fill immediately behind the blocks to move water away from the wall face.
  • Place a perforated drain pipe at the base of the wall, sloped to a positive outlet, so collected water can exit the system.
  • Use geotextile fabric to separate drainage stone from native soils and keep fines from clogging the drain.
  • Grade the surface so runoff is directed away from the wall and does not pond against the top course.
